New Bethany, a local nonprofit, has appointed a new executive committee on its Board of Directors. New Bethany meets people where they are by offering wraparound services designed to remove barriers and assist individuals and families in reaching self-sufficiency. The six professionals personify New Bethany’s mission of offering hope and support to our neighbors who experience poverty, food insecurity, and homelessness and believe that all people, regardless of circumstances, should be treated with dignity and care without judgment.

Gary Carney will conclude his first term as board president. He retired after a successful career at Moravian University as the vice president of institutional advancement. Carney has been a committed member of New Bethany’s board since 2016. Kerry Wrobel, CEO of Lehigh Valley Industrial Parks, has stepped off the executive committee, completing his term as vice president. Michael Fischer of Client 1st Financial, served as treasurer before accepting the role of vice president. Highmark’s Jane Brooks begins her third year of board service as the new treasurer.

Bethlehem-based attorney Larry Fox has completed his term as board secretary, and has stepped off the executive committee. Also from Moravian University, Cathy Coyne, completing her term as board member at-large, will now serve as secretary.

César Cordova, Southside resident and teacher, and Brian Gates of Air Products have been appointed as members at-large. Cordova has served on the board since 2022 and Gates since 2021.

J. Marc Rittle, executive director of New Bethany, will serve as ex-officio.

“This new slate of board executives will be crucial in facilitating New Bethany’s continued growth,” says Rittle. “We have a lot planned for 2023, including re-opening our drop-in center, expanding the offerings of Choice Food Pantry, and expanding supportive housing. A strong executive board is needed to manage this growth, and this group undoubtedly meets that requirement.”
